Piano lessons
in downtown Pécs
My name is Gabriella Eszter Szabó. I am a pianist, piano teacher, accompanist and composer.
I give piano lessons in Hungarian, English and Norwegian.
I have been teaching piano since 1999 for different age groups: nursery and preschool children, music school pupils, adult music enthusiasts and musician aspirants.
Teaching for me does not only mean work, but dedication, challenge and interesting experiences too. I like to see my students to develop as pianists and to open to different musical genres and improvisations.
The last 22 years of teaching gave me opportunity to meet a lot of people, and I found many friendships, memorable conversations and beautiful musical moments amongst them.
Behind the scenes

What my students say
"My older daughter, Zita, started to play piano with Gabriella at the age of 13. We did not know what to expect at the beginning as we did not have a reference before, but Gabi exceeded all out expectations."
Orsi
Mother of Zita Dorottya Nagy"I always wanted to play piano, and at 7th grade I had the opportunity to start with Gabriella. I consider myself a closed kind of personality, but I think I changed and became more open in the last two years. Gabi supported always my ideas, helped me when I was stuck with a piece or listened to my opinions. She is a very motivating, creative, patient and inspiring teacher who made my self confidence stronger. I always look forward to her classes and to playing the piano."

Bergen, Norway"I have learned piano from Gabi Szabó at the Kodolányi University’s jazz faculty. All the classes went in a good atmosphere, with lots of improvisational exercises… Gabi tried to customize the study program to each student, and as a result I could discover many ways to express my feelings in music… It was really inspiring to work with her, she has a very positive and motivating personality."
Dániel Vízer
Székesfehérvár"My piano studies - that I quit in my childhood started again as an adult - had two significant elements: first, I have got a piano for Christmas. And second that I have met Gabi Szabó, who gave meaning to the instrument. The missing 30 years brought me almost back to square one, but not entirely. Gabi inspired me and understood that I would like to learn the piano for fun and personal experience. She chose style and difficulty of the pieces very well. The pleasant atmosphere of the classes was provided by Gabi’s inner piece and patience. She planned well the classes pedagogically, she handled me flexibly when I came to class not very prepared sometimes. Our relationship had no signs of a teacher-student hierarchy, sometimes we even had conversations about different topics as a break. My best experience was always to hear her playing when she introduced me a new piece. I have never found a similar piano teacher ever since"
Gabriella Mészáros
Budapest"We are satisfied with Gabriella as a piano teacher. Our son found the piano classes cool and motivating, and he achieved a lot in just a year and a half. Gabriella is very smart to find new pieces that are at right level and motivating. She is also very understanding and patient in the classes - there is good atmosphere :) Both we parents and our son recommend to start piano with Gabriella"
Geir Håskjold
Bergen, Norway"If somebody would consider to learn piano, do not hesitate for you have found who you were looking for… Right away the first class with Gabi was unforgettable as it went by in a very good mood… we started with improvisation at once, and I felt at the end of the class that I can play the piano. I recommend to those too who have some basic classical experience on the piano but would like to taste to the world of jazz and improvisation as well."
Attila Szántó
Budapest"I have been a pupil of Gabriella for 3 years. I could never have asked for a better teacher than her. I have learned a lot from her and she is the best piano teacher I had. I feel always home at her classes. When I play something wrong, she explains what I could do to improve it to next class… She makes piano playing even more fun than it actually is. She is patient, motivating and she makes sure that we would not be stressed. She never forces us to play something we don’t want to, she would try to find something new instead. She takes care of us as we were a family, and I could have never asked for anything better."

Bergen, Norway"Gabi started to teach me piano at the jazz faculty of János Kodolányi College. I liked to be her student because she always found me exciting pieces, and put emphasis on theory as well that is very helpful at learning an instrument. Her classes were not boring piano lessons, but very colorful with lots of imrpovisations. She was an inspiring teacher in addition due to her personality and professionalism. It was nice to attend music lessons where laughing and humour was a vital part of learning. We became friends later, attended each other’s concerts and even composed songs together. I wish everybody such piano teacher!"
